Level 1: Puppy Socialization & Order
This is the golden stage of a dog's life. The trust and order established during this period will determine its personality for a lifetime.
01 Potty Training
The core logic is "preventing failure" and "rewarding success." By observing the puppy's excretion patterns (e.g., after eating, after waking up), guide them to the designated area in time.
Marking Behavior: Give a command (e.g., "Go potty") at the moment they excrete, and immediately give a high-value treat upon completion.
Environment Management: Before they learn, narrow their activity range to avoid leaving scent marks throughout the house.
02 Crate Desensitization & Alone Time
The crate should not be a tool for punishment, but rather a "safe haven" for the dog.
Feeding Association
Place the food bowl inside the crate to create a positive association of "entering the crate = good things happen."
Progressive Door Closing
Start with closing the door for a few seconds; as long as they stay quiet, open the door and reward, gradually extending the duration.
03 Recall Basics
This is the most critical life-saving skill. Never punish them after they return, no matter what they did before.
Expert Tip: Use a unique, high-pitched whistle or command, and only give their favorite freeze-dried treat when recall is successful.
Advanced Technique: Start in an indoor environment with no distractions, gradually increasing the distance. When the dog is attracted by other things outdoors, don't just shout blindly; use a long training leash to assist, ensuring a positive result every time you call them back.
04 Correcting Biting Behavior
Puppies explore the world through their mouths; biting hands is natural but needs guidance.
Yelp: When they bite too hard, make a high-pitched "Ouch!" sound and immediately stop interacting for 10 seconds.
Substitute Guidance: Carry chew toys with you; when they want to bite your hand, put the toy in their mouth instead.
Level 1 Learning Summary
Congratulations on completing the first step in establishing puppy order. Consistent practice is the key to success.
